The Facts

Hail & Wind damage - what you should know

Hail Damage

Hail stones vary in size from:

  • marble size (3/4 inch in diameter, threshold damage to thin metal roof hardware & light duty patios)

  • quarter size (1 inch in diameter, threshold damage to roofing         materials)

  • golf ball size (1 3/4 inch in diameter, typically severe damage to roofing materials)

Hail might produce a "dent" or a damage point in an asphalt shingle, resulting in granule loss and reduced remaining roof life. Hail damage can dislodge the protective mineral granules of an asphalt shingle, producing areas of exposed asphalt shingle substrate.

Many times an insurance adjuster will state that the cause of roof damage is from roof wear: cracks, blisters, tears, etc. This may be true, however having one of our insurance experts on the roof with your adjuster can prevent any "oversight" from occurring.

Wind Damage

Wind damage, just like hail damage, can threaten the integrity of your home or other structures. During high winds, wind speeds fluctuate and winds may change direction. This puts enormous pressure on all parts of a building. High winds can peel shingles or entire sections off your roof.

VJ's Construction understands the urgency in getting your repairs completed quickly. The first step is to have the damage evaluated by a professional adjuster. A complete structural damage assessment is a crucial first step towards the completion of your repairs.
